The Dan Stover Music Awards
In 1988, the Rotary Club of Alhambra established a Music Scholarship Program in the name of Dan Stover following his death in 1987. The program was proposed, organized, and championed by a new Rotarian, Christine Montan, who was Alhambra's first female Rotarian.
Ms. Montan recognized and appreciated the contribution that Dan Stover had made as a Rotarian and a musician. From these beginnings, the Dan Stover Memorial Music Scholarship program "graduated" into a Rotary District 5300 program.
A generation of talented, young musicians have participated and had the opportunity, in the name of Dan Stover, to compete against their peers and earn funds to further their musical education with scholarship awards.
Monetary awards are granted to the top performers to assist them with furthering their education. The #1 winner at the club level goes on to compete at the regional level, and then, possibly, the district level, with scholarship monies awarded at each level. Several years ago, our Covina Rotary Club local level winner won the entire district level competion.
